In recent years, there have been several security threats from around the neighborhood and within the town. But the presence of government security officials are not available to help out, due to the poor deplorable condition of the Police Post available at the time. The roofs were gone, structure depreciated greatly. Earlier, the Nigeria Police Force occupied the police post during the day and retired to the divisional office in another town before they later stopped showing up in the day time. This was the situation for years until the people decided to call for help.
The government rarely maintain its facilities across the nation. The officials of government and politicians in this country do not really serve the interest of the common man. The town became a den of rouges and robbers, who burgled into several houses and carted away the few things people have in their houses. College students from other states of the country and residents in the town were molested and robbed on several occasions. Cases of few of which were reported to authorities in the town. The criminals go into such operations with knives, cutlasses, and some times guns to attack their targets. Even in some reports, poor people were also victims at some times. These increased and persisted for long, while the people remained helpless.
The leadership of the town seek the support from well meaning individuals and bodies, gathered resources from quarters, and engaged local security watchmen (known as vigilante group) to oversee the security of lives and properties majorly at nights. Their wages, uniforms, mobility among other things were provided through this self-help medium.
The community development association went ahead as well to seek support for construction of a police station and reconstruction of Police Barracks to allow for police officers to operate within the town. Our NGO had been supportive all the way, and was largely involved in this police building projects. We donated and supported massively to ensure that we now have what is befitting and conducive for operatives to work.
As at today, both the station facilities and barracks for the designated officers and their families are ready for use, and will be commissioned before the year runs out.
Security is the responsibility of everyone, because lives are important to make a prosperous society. We cannot feed the people, house them, and yet leave them under the danger of death and threats of thefts, and expect them to be healthy and successful.
This world must be better, and it needs the support of everyone.
We are never going to leave the people to death and threats of thefts.
